Who We Are

Asia Pacific Campus, commonly referred to as APEC Campus, is a private higher education provider based at 101, 1 Kandy Road, Kiribathgoda, Sri Lanka. The institution describes itself as an academic partner that works with internationally recognized universities to make their programmes available to students in Sri Lanka, so that students can earn internationally valued qualifications without leaving the country.

APEC Campus is therefore best understood as a delivery and coordination partner rather than a degree-awarding body in its own right. Its work centres on establishing relationships with overseas universities and institutions, arranging for their programmes to be taught locally, and supporting students through the full cycle of enrollment, study, and certification. Academic awards continue to be issued by the partner institution concerned, in line with that institution’s own regulations and quality assurance arrangements.

Purpose and Educational Focus

The stated mission of APEC Campus is to bridge local talent with global opportunities, benefiting both students and partner universities. The campus aims to provide a learning environment that supports innovation, critical thinking, and leadership, and to offer programmes that are relevant to the present-day economy while opening longer-term career pathways for graduates.

Three key focus areas are identified by the campus:

Information Technology

Covering areas such as software engineering, networking, and cyber security.

Business

Covering finance, marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.

Law

Covering corporate law, civil rights, and litigation practice.

Alongside these three core areas, APEC Campus offers a broader portfolio of study areas in the social sciences, humanities, education, and media.

Role in Higher Education in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has a strong national school system, and each year a large number of students complete the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination. Places in the state university system are limited and highly competitive, and a substantial proportion of qualified students are not able to secure a state university place. Those students must either seek a private or foreign qualification, study abroad, or postpone higher education altogether.

APEC Campus positions itself within this gap. By working with established universities and institutions overseas, the campus aims to widen the range of recognized study options available to Sri Lankan students at home. Its intended contribution is therefore one of access: providing additional, structured routes into higher education for students who would otherwise have limited options, and doing so at a cost and in a location that is realistic for students and their families.

APEC Campus also seeks to serve working adults and mid-career professionals, for whom flexible, part-time, or blended study arrangements are often the only practical way to complete a qualification.

Intended Role of APEC Campus

In relation to partner institutions, the role that APEC Campus intends to perform in Sri Lanka is that of a local management and facilitation partner. Subject in every case to the necessary partnerships, approvals, and agreements being concluded, this role comprises:

Local Coordination

Acting as the point of contact in Sri Lanka for the partner institution, its programmes, and its students.

Delivery Arrangements

Organizing teaching venues, timetables, teaching staff, and learning resources in accordance with the partner institution’s requirements.

Student Administration

Handling inquiries, admissions, registration, records, and examination logistics on behalf of the partner institution.

Student Support

Providing academic guidance, language and study-skills support, and pastoral support throughout the programme.

Quality Assurance Liaison

Working with the partner institution to ensure that its academic standards, assessment rules, and quality assurance requirements are met in full.

Academic Authority Notice: Academic authority, curriculum content, and certification remain at all times with the awarding institution. APEC Campus does not award qualifications in its own name.

Governance: The Council & The Senate

The strategic leadership, institutional integrity, and academic governance of Asia Pacific Campus and the Asia Pacific Campus of Business and Law are stewarded by the Council and the Senate. Together, these governing bodies ensure robust institutional oversight, rigorous academic quality standards, and seamless international coordination for students.

Extending Higher Education to Rural Areas

A central element of APEC Campus’s development plan is to extend higher education provision beyond the major cities. At present, most private and international higher education provision in Sri Lanka is concentrated in and around Colombo and a small number of other urban centres. For a student living in a rural district, accessing that provision means relocating, commuting long distances, or paying for accommodation — costs that are beyond the reach of many families, and which fall particularly heavily on female students and on students who must continue to contribute to household income.

APEC Campus intends to work with institutions located in rural and regional areas, so that students outside the major cities are able to access higher education closer to where they live. The purpose is not to move students out of their districts, but to bring recognized qualifications to them.

APEC Campus does not intend to pursue this work in isolation. Its plan is to collaborate with universities, campuses, institutes, and other educational institutions that already operate in Sri Lanka, drawing upon their teaching staff, premises, laboratories, libraries, established administrative systems, and community standing rather than duplicating them.

Five Core Commitments

The main objective of APEC Campus is to promote access to higher education in rural areas of Sri Lanka through collaboration with well-established universities and educational institutions. That objective rests on five connected commitments:

Commitment What It Means in Practice
Higher education accessibility Widening the range of recognised study options available to Sri Lankan students, so that students who do not secure a state university place still have a structured route into higher education.
Rural education Extending provision beyond Colombo and the major urban centres, so that students in rural areas are not required to relocate in order to study.
University collaboration Working with universities and institutions already operating in Sri Lanka, using their existing staff, premises, and community standing rather than duplicating them.
International academic opportunities Bringing programmes and qualifications from established international universities and institutions to students in Sri Lanka, delivered to the awarding institution’s own standards.
Opportunities for students across Sri Lanka Ensuring that the location of a student’s home is not the factor that determines whether they are able to pursue higher education.
